A Whirlpool dryer that tumbles but produces no heat is one of the most common appliance repair calls we get in Toronto — and one of the most fixable. In most cases it's a blown thermal fuse, a failed heating element, or a faulty thermostat. We Fix It Appliances carries Whirlpool dryer heating parts on the truck and fixes most no-heat dryers in a single same-day visit.

Is Your Dryer Running But Not Heating?

When a Whirlpool dryer runs its cycle normally — the drum spins, the timer counts down — but clothes come out cold and wet, the problem is almost always in the heating circuit, not the motor or controls. This is a fixable electrical fault, not a reason to replace the dryer.

Important: If your Whirlpool dryer is also showing error codes F22, F23, or F30, those codes point directly to the heat circuit or exhaust airflow. Don't ignore them — heat-related faults can become fire hazards if the exhaust is blocked. We diagnose the root cause, not just the symptom.

6 Reasons Your Whirlpool Dryer Isn't Heating

What the Error Codes Mean

Newer Whirlpool dryers display F-codes when a fault is detected. Here are the three most common heat-related codes:

F22 — Exhaust Thermistor High Temp

The exhaust thermistor is reading a temperature that's too high. Almost always caused by a blocked exhaust vent trapping heat. Clean the vent first; if F22 persists, the thermistor itself has failed and needs replacement.

F23 — Exhaust Thermistor Open Circuit

The thermistor circuit has broken or shorted. The dryer can't monitor exhaust temperature, so it shuts down heating as a safety measure. The thermistor and its wiring harness need to be tested and replaced.

F30 — Restricted Airflow

The dryer's airflow sensor detected that the exhaust is blocked. This is a fire hazard warning — the dryer shuts off heating until airflow is restored. Check and clean the lint trap housing, the duct behind the dryer, and the exterior vent cap. If the thermal fuse already blew from the heat buildup, it needs replacement too.

Check These Before You Call

Two quick checks you can do in 5 minutes that may save a service call:

  1. Check the circuit breaker. Electric dryers use a double-pole breaker (two connected breakers). If one leg trips, the dryer has enough power to tumble but not to heat. Open your electrical panel and reset the breaker — flip it fully off, then back on. If it trips again immediately, there's an electrical fault and you need a technician.
  2. Clean the lint trap and check the duct. Pull the dryer away from the wall and inspect the exhaust duct for kinks or crushing. Disconnect it at the back and check inside for lint buildup. Also clean the lint screen housing inside the dryer with a flexible brush. Restore airflow, run a cycle, and see if heat returns.

If those don't fix it, the thermal fuse, heating element, or thermostat has failed — none of those are user-serviceable without the right tools and parts. Call 647-584-1289 and we can usually be there the same day.

Frequently Asked Questions — Whirlpool Dryer Not Heating

Why is my Whirlpool dryer running but not heating?

The most common causes are a blown thermal fuse, a failed heating element, a faulty high-limit or cycling thermostat, or a blocked exhaust vent that tripped the thermal fuse. We carry all of these parts on the truck and can usually fix it same day.

Can a Whirlpool thermal fuse be reset?

No. Whirlpool thermal fuses are one-use safety devices. Once they blow, they must be replaced — there's no reset button. But just replacing the fuse without fixing the blocked vent means the new one will blow again. We always identify and fix the root cause.

What do Whirlpool dryer error codes F22, F23, and F30 mean?

F22 = exhaust thermistor reading too high (usually blocked vent). F23 = thermistor circuit failure. F30 = restricted airflow warning — a fire hazard flag meaning the exhaust is blocked. All three point to a heat circuit or ventilation fault we fix same day.

How much does it cost to fix a Whirlpool dryer that won't heat?

We charge a flat $95 diagnostic fee. If you proceed with the repair, that $95 is credited toward your total. You get a firm upfront quote before we start any work — no surprises.

How quickly can you come?

Same-day or next-morning in most cases. Call 647-584-1289 before noon and we can usually have a technician at your home the same day across Toronto and the GTA.

Is it worth repairing a Whirlpool dryer that won't heat?

Yes, almost always. A thermal fuse, heating element, or thermostat repair is one of the least expensive dryer fixes. If your Whirlpool is under 10 years old, repair is almost always the right call financially.

Do you repair Whirlpool Cabrio and Duet dryers?

Yes. We service all Whirlpool dryer models including Cabrio (WED series), Duet front-load models, and standard electric and gas dryers. We carry parts for both electric and gas models.

What warranty do you offer?

Every repair comes with a 6-month parts and labour warranty. If the same issue returns within 6 months, we fix it at no charge.
