The symptom tells us a lot before we even arrive. Pick yours:
Classic defrost failure. Frost has built up on the evaporator coils and is blocking the fan. The freezer stays cold because it's next to the coils; the fridge gets no airflow.
Compressor or sealed system fault. The start relay is often the culprit — a small, inexpensive part. Could also be a refrigerant leak or compressor failure.
Fan motor fault. 22E = fridge evaporator fan, 21E = freezer fan, 40E = ice room fan. The fan has stopped spinning and cold air isn't circulating.
Partially blocked defrost, a dirty condenser coil, or a failing fan. The fridge is trying to cool but can't reach the right temperature.
Samsung French door fridges are particularly prone to this. The defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or thermal fuse in the defrost circuit fails, and ice builds up on the evaporator coils over days or weeks until airflow is completely blocked. The symptom: fridge section warm, freezer still somewhat cold, possible humming from the fan hitting ice. We force a defrost, identify the failed component, replace it, and restore normal operation.
The evaporator fan pulls air across the cold evaporator coils and circulates it through the fridge and freezer compartments. When the motor fails, cold air stops moving — the coils are cold but the interior isn't. On Samsung models, this shows as error code 22E (fridge fan) or 21E (freezer fan). The start relay is a small plug-in component on the side of the compressor. When it fails, the compressor can't start and the entire refrigeration system stops. Both the fridge and freezer warm up. You may hear a clicking sound every few minutes as the compressor tries and fails to start. The start relay is one of the least expensive fridge repairs — we test it first before assuming the compressor itself has failed.
Samsung fridges have condenser coils either at the back or underneath. When coils are clogged with dust and pet hair, the fridge can't release heat efficiently and gradually loses its ability to reach the correct temperature. The fridge runs constantly but never gets cold enough. Cleaning the coils can restore cooling — we clean them during every diagnosis and advise you on how often to clean them yourself going forward.
A refrigerant leak is less common but does occur, especially in older Samsung units or models with known sealed-system issues. Signs include the compressor running constantly, the fridge never reaching temperature, and both compartments gradually warming over days. We check refrigerant pressure during diagnosis. If there's a leak, we locate it, repair the line, and recharge the system.
Samsung fridges use temperature sensors (thermistors) in both compartments to signal the control board to run the compressor and fans. A failed thermistor can cause the board to think the fridge is already cold when it isn't — so it never calls for cooling. A control board fault can prevent the defrost cycle from running, or stop the compressor from engaging. We test all sensors and board outputs during diagnosis.

The fridge section evaporator fan has stopped or is blocked by ice. Fridge section warms up while freezer may stay cold. We replace the fan motor assembly — stocked on the truck.
The freezer fan motor has failed. Both compartments lose cooling when the freezer fan stops. Common on RF series French door models.
The ice compartment fan has failed on models with a dedicated ice maker compartment. Can affect overall fridge cooling on Twin Cooling Plus models. Ice maker may stop producing ice simultaneously.
The main control board has lost communication with the display panel or a sub-board. This can prevent the defrost cycle and compressor commands from executing. We test board communication and replace the failed board.
The defrost sensor (thermistor) in the freezer has failed or is reading out of range. Without a functioning sensor, the defrost cycle may not run at all — leading to the progressive frost buildup that eventually blocks cooling.
